And I was really skilled at freestyling.
He would put me on the spot.
But I had to I could only freestyle about biblical characters.
and i go ahead give me one about noah and it would just be but it was entertaining and i knew i wasn't gonna be like a christian rapper or something like that so my dad was so you're about to be la cree before yeah me and la craig yeah absolutely but back then i think my dad saw that i was you know silly and could do impressions and stuff so he was like yo every kid in these projects want to be a rapper he's like you gotta think outside the box do something different he was like
You know, you funny once you get up there and tell some jokes, like do what you do when you around the house and do you?
I was doing my impressions of, you know, Eddie Murphy, Michael Jackson and stuff that I would catch glimpses of on, you know, Arsenio or Living Color.
And I would just do it.
Right.
And it worked, you know, because he was a thousand percent right.
We was when I would enter the talent competitions and talent shows in the city.
The rap thing would go pretty good, but then when they saw me doing standup, they was like, I've never seen this before.
And that's when it just took off.
And I was winning every talent show.
That's the standup thing.
I was the only one.
And literally all the way throughout my entire career, I'd be in the comedy store or wherever, the improv, and I'd just be the only kid there with everybody from Dave Chappelle to
Damon Wayans to Eddie Griffin.
And I was living my dream.
You know what I mean?
