I actually was exposed to uh kind of in my first year in the autism world because my mentor had a son with autism and actually um grew up kind of uh with her son when the refrigerator mother theory still existed.
Yeah.
Um and so this is the idea that autism was caused by cold and distant mothers.
And
And so in my old mentor's pl um uh life, her husband
would sort of would think that it she caused it.
And so like the last thing that a mother needs is more blame.
We carry enough ourselves.
Um and so um uh Canner introduced it um and then it became something that people thought was like the true cause of autism, right?
And so then people are inferring that this mother is cold and she caused her child to have autism and what a terrible uh kind of burden to carry.
Um and so that's one of my I would say reasons why I think it's important um that we continue to uh look into claims or look into these theories that exist.
Yeah.
And then I think in line with that is the that vac vaccines cause autism.
Yeah.
That was has also been a really big one in uh the late 90s.
Um Wakefield published a study saying that uh the MMR vaccine caused um intestinal changes that then led to autism.
And that was fact for a really long time, right?
People and even still, right?
Yeah.
So I think, uh, in at least in my career, uh when I first started in the career um in the field, it was kinda like, Oh, maybe like some people, right?
