My answer has been the same for 20 years.
And it actually started by reading Dan Goleman's book, right, about emotional intelligence.
That's where I was first kind of exposed to this way of thinking way back when it first came out in the early 2000s, late 90s.
And I'm very grateful because while I read it that early, it took me a decade or so and a lot of like
kind of rough and tumble events that I've again, quickly described here to kick me into submission, to really be honest with myself about what I'm good at, what I'm not good at.
And to this day, like, you know, I sometimes feel, look, I'm grateful every day that I get to, that I get to be in the CEO seat and captain this thing to what I think will become a multi-billion dollar organization.
We already employ thousands of people.
Like what a, what a cool opportunity.
How did I hang on to that?
But I also know where my value is in the way I sort of just described it to you very vaguely.
So self-awareness is not just being humbled by all the ways we fall short, which are myriad, but by being confident and honest in the ways that we can contribute the most.
And then being, again, conscious enough and intentional enough
to shape our organization, shape ourselves in a way that will allow us to do the most good.
So if I can extract myself, using all this knowledge that I continue to pursue about what I'm good at, what I'm bad at, what the organization needs, where it needs to go, and then extract myself out of everything that I possibly can
Where I, where I am not the best in class and only almost focus on the things.
And it's not to say that I abdicate all those other realms.
I mean, I, you know, there's all kinds of meetings and structures that allow me as the chief executive to stay in touch with the business and what it's doing, including by the way, just spending time on the front lines, which is, I'm a big advocate of.
You talk about ways to keep yourself humble, ways to keep yourself plugged in.
There's that.
Okay, but meanwhile, the bulk of my time and efforts are focused in ways that only I can do.
