And it's like tough to say because you look at those years attached to it and it's like, wow, what a commitment.
But the reality is for a twenty three year old, even if these never gonna be better than a third liner, like that's a good contract for a third liner, four million dollar salary in today's NHL when you see, you know, players who are thirty one reach July first and get handed massive deals that go through the worst parts of their career to be French players.
And you know, you see how these kinds of contracts think about the Anaheim Ducks signing AJ Greer, like what would have happened if they
didn't spend four point two five million dollars a year there and just had someone from within to invest that kind of money in
It could have changed the complexion of their cap picture completely because it it's it's money you're committing at a different time and now you have that long term certainty.
So I'd rather see a team do it, even if he hasn't shown a ton, right?
Like some of his comps are players like Jack Drury, which doesn't instill a ton of confidence into say someone you would think eight year term you're gonna think top six.
But what if he is the next Troy Terry, right?
Like that's the best case.
scenario based on where his play is or that middle road path of like uh a Jesper Foss, like
say he becomes that really good two way third third line player.
It all will add up in the end and I think it's it's an interesting bet.
It's gutsy.
You can't do it with everyone.
You can't, you know, make your cap situation too rigid, but
with the right players at, you know, this early point in their career, why not?
I think a little bit of both, right?
Because obviously if you're committing that term, you were believing enough in that player.
But I think it's getting getting ahead of things and projecting where these players might be and betting on them at this stage in their career before they have the chance to break out because we've seen it before, this hesitation to invest in
in these RFA players, right?
