And there there really is no accountability for what companies can say when they're selling things because
Obviously when you're advertising harsh bits that are using pain mechanics, they're not gonna say that in the description of the bit at all.
Yeah, it's unfortunate that someone can slap their name on something and then if they're successful people are like they idolize that person they wanna be w like them and then they look at the equipment they use and they wanna emulate that.
And I agree with what you said where a most of the people in the horse world, even the people who are defending problematic practices, they do love horses in their own way, but I think that that love is often so misguided.
And they are taught to show their love for horses in the wrong way and not reflect on whether or not the actions that they're participating in will actually feel like love to the horse.
And I do find that we have this industry where people personally identify with the equipment that they use.
So when you criticize the equipment, they feel like they are being personally attacked.
when really it's like who you are is separate from the equipment you use, even if you're openly endorsing and defending it for a long time.
you can change that.
You don't have to keep committing to defending the same things or using the same equipment or training the same way.
Yeah, and there's so much competing sources of information where people will say things that contradict.
And I think that's something that I ran into growing up too with my instructors, 'cause I grew up showing Arabian horses and there's all sorts of really crappy bits on the market that basically the sole selling feature for them is that this will make your horse light in the mouth, it'll make them more responsive, it'll make them easier to put into their headset.
Which all is all true, but the equipment that we were commonly using was like very, very thin twisted wire snaffles that are basically like a cheese cutter, a cheese wire.
And I was just taught like, oh, this is how it works, this is like it and how it works is just basically like your horse will be softer and then this narrative's created where it's like your horse is softer because they like that bit.
And then that's what you internalize.
So when I started to be exposed to more stuff online, I was very defensive when I would encounter people questioning the equipment that I used and the practices that my trainers told me were okay because you either have to defend your trainer and what they've been telling you, especially if you're still with that trainer, or really start to reflect on the people in your close inner circle and whether or not they're telling you the truth.
Or an and it's not even like they're deliberately lying 'cause I think a lot of these trainers believe what they're saying also.
They're not doing it to be deliberately deceptive.
They've also internalized the same information.
