are a direct result of fear like you don't have people feeling the need to use a harsh bit or put a lip chain on their horse if they're not afraid of what their horse might do and yet the people who advocate for that same equipment are typically the ones who insist that they're not afraid meanwhile all of their excuses for how they train and the equipment they use are rooted in oh well this is to prevent them from being dangerous this will stop them from doing this or that and it's like okay so you're afraid of what your horse might do if you don't use that equipment
And like that, that's not like an insult.
It's not a dig.
It's just stating a fact.
But there's this really huge aversion to admitting fear.
What really like fear keeps us safe.
And it's a very normal thing to be fearful of situations that put you directly in danger.
And yet there's this really huge denial of fear in our industry.
And like people look at it with disdain, like they view it as a bad thing if you're afraid.
Yeah.
You're a weaker rider for it.
that takes care of me too yeah that's about what feels good for you like and you touched on something there too that I think is a huge problem in the industry and it's this idea that like we need to be riding all the time and that you need to have a training schedule and there's totally all this pressure to basically like go into what should be your passion and like hop because most people who ride are hobbyists they're not looking to go to the olympics
they're not necessarily wanting to become a trainer and even for those who are it started out being a passion so all of this pressure where it's like you need to have this set training schedule and always be trying to hit these milestones and goals and having destinations it leads people to not actually enjoying the present moment and like it puts so much pressure on stuff that should be fun and
Also, when we only look at horses as vehicles to sit on, like that opens the door for a whole lot of ethical problems that we're seeing happen rampantly in the horse world that are problems in themselves.
But that's something to where like I've taken such a big step back because I'm like, this isn't fun anymore.
I was like, totally.
I go to shows.
People are judging every little thing, especially when you start doing rewards based training, like people straight up want to want you to fail.
They're watching for any little mistake that they can latch on to.
to shame you for meanwhile they can watch their favorite olympian have a horse completely freak out on course and they'll be like oh it's just because these horses are really high strong and this is the way that they are but they want you to fail and it's not a nice environment it's very toxic and i think it honestly stems from people having their own needs and wants denied and being forced to conform and being pressured to feel certain ways about things
