Well, just to play devil's advocate for a second, there's all that money spent, but would you say voters still got it right in Wisconsin?
They did not go for the Elon Musk candidate.
It means candidates will be beholden to whoever is spending tens of millions of dollars to put them into that position.
It seems like there's a much more difficult or more challenging
messaging issue here, because in 2022, you could say, do you want this right to be taken away?
And now, you know, I've had conversations with people where I started explaining that there's a commission and that's, you know, half of them are selected by attorneys and the half are appointed and they vet applicants.
People's eyes just start to glaze over, figuring out what we have now and what we're going to.
And
There's a very compelling message, I think, from the supporters of this amendment who say people should have a voice in who sits on the court.
So how do you provide a counter, a simple message that is resonating with people?
Is that?
Yeah, the governor gets the three finalists from the commission and gets to appoint one of those.
You know, I talked to former Supreme Court Justice Carol Beyer last summer at a panel discussion about this proposed amendment.
You know, she said things were very different decades ago when she was put on the court.
But she said she wasn't sure she would actually have tried to become a Supreme Court justice if she had to run an election in today's political climate.
And just to underscore what's at stake in this vote, you know, there's the Senate president, Ty Masterson, was a proponent of getting this on the ballot.
He was in Marion earlier this year.
Marion County Record editor Eric Meyer wrote about his comments before a local Patriot group.
where Masterson said that this, in no uncertain terms, this is about getting Supreme Court to overturn the right to abortion and different rulings about school finance.
