I watched the meeting at the White House, and then I went to play football with a bunch of friends.
We were in a league, and on the team are men from all ethnicities and races of this country.
And what was striking was how unifying this episode has been.

very unjustly persecuted for these crimes that don't happen.
And when really, I think South Africans feel we should get a lot more credit for the stability of the society that we have built only 30 years after the end of apartheid, of the fact that we were able to usher in a peaceful transition
of power to a multi-party democracy.
The fact that a few years ago we were able to get rid of an authoritarian populist president in the form of Jacob Zuma and the fact that slowly but surely the lights are staying on in the country.
There is a lot to be proud of as South Africans, and this incident in the sort of international spotlight that's being focused on us is making us rally around those points of pride, and that is a very unifying

Well, Don, if there is a slow genocide of white people going on in South Africa, as Elon Musk claims, it is very slow.
very, very slow.
I wrote some statistics down.
One, that's the number of farmers that were killed in the last quarter of last year in South Africa.
And of course, all this has to do with the alleged persecution and violence against white Afrikaner farmers.
That is apparently such a scourge in our society that the United States is having to sort of bend all its rules
hire private planes to bring these persecuted people to safety in the United States.
And from the perspective of those of us sitting in South Africa, myself as a white South African, it's hard to see this white genocide anywhere.
In fact, you can argue that the opposite is true, that even 30 years after the end of apartheid, which was a white supremacist state, it is still very privileged to be a white person in this country.
