But neither of those will happen in future.
I mean, the AI powered facial recognition is really just a kind of an improvement on the old idea of e-gates.
And all an e-gate does is basically look at your passport photo.
which is embedded in your passport, the details of your face, look at the image in front of it, do a few calculations and say, yeah, there's a high enough probability that that's Simon Calder, so we'll let him through.
Or indeed, as the old saying, if you look like your passport photo, it's time to come home.
Quite often it doesn't work for people.
But I don't know if you've been recently to the U.S.,
because they are using facial recognition like never before.
And quite often you will just simply turn up.
They will not even bother to look at your passport.
They'll just say, oh, welcome back.
Well, yeah, certainly the idea in Dubai is that you will register all your passport details and your travel details.
So they will be in the words of James Bond villains expecting you when you turn up.
