Yeah it was, it was.
Um I I guess I was I was I was I was wondering to go what down what is potentially a rabbit hole here, um which is which is always a risk on uh on a podcast.
And and that is that um stable coins uh
are perhaps the a bit like central bank digital currencies, they're per perhaps the um efforts on behalf of central banks by fiscal authorities, by governments, to recognise that crypto assets are increasingly popular, increasingly something that uh particularly younger investors are keen to get exposure to.
And
They are perhaps the way of sort of
spreading the needle of
uh keeping the fiat system and the sovereign debt system show on the road, but were they not to the uh demand, the interest, uh perhaps arguably the opacity advantages
um of of of private cryptocurrencies where I think there is far more risk
uh of via disintermediation debt capital markets problems if the governments were were to throw their weights behind there.
The the reason I again the reason I pause on that point
So it's really hard to to prove because no policymaker will ever make that sort of public statement.
Um
But intrinsically it feels like um they have to ha say something in the crypto asset space and have to do something.
And therefore perhaps those utility cases um are a convenient justification for going down that route.
do and and and I get and I and I understand uh both Andrew Bailey, the governor of the Bank of England and and the Bank of England's institutional view on this and it's and by the way, it's it's tangential to their view on a c uh uh current debate around
the remuneration of bank reserves and and
the bank being concerned that if it introduced tiered interest rates on bank reserves like the ECB, then it um reduces the effectiveness of their interest rate policy tool to to influence finance conditions.
Um the problem
