And I know the Garda Commissioner, who I must say was at the meeting and was very helpful in terms of our discussions, is commissioned to the issue of pursuit training, which is relevant to e-scooters and perhaps even more relevant in relation to scramblers.
Well, look, I think that's a matter for the Garda Commissioner from an operational point of view.
I mean, the government is growing Garda numbers.
The Garda Commissioner needs to decide the level of training that the Garda require.
And I'm very much aligned with the views of rank and file Garda who have said they need that pursuit training.
And I know the Garda Commissioner is as well.
I just, the conversation, and I don't mean this in any way rudely, a conversation that's just about how the guard is going to catch someone in an e-scooter is kind of missing the point.

Well, I think it is.
they're not going to pursue them so today the law is that that person can't be on an e-scooter anyway right but if the guard catches them they don't have a registration plate or a sticker they haven't had to register the vehicle at the point of thing they haven't had to wear a helmet but if they catch them and they only catch them if they pursue them and the GRA say we're not pursuing yet
But what we're doing, well firstly the Gardaí do have to enforce the laws of the land without fear or favour.
They don't have a choice as to which laws to enforce and the Gardaí know that.
They enforce the laws of the land, they do a very good job.
What I'm saying is that we're trying to cut the issue off its source here.
I don't want Gardaí having to spend their life chasing 14 and 15 year olds up and down bike lanes.
What I actually want a situation is that 14 and 15 year olds aren't on e-scooters.
And that's what we're trying to do.
Up until now it's been, and I say this respectfully, kind of left to the Gardaí.
I think that's been unfair.
I think there's been laws they've been asked to enforce that haven't really been enforceable, if we're being truthful.
