Absolutely the best week of the year.

Last week in the podcast, we brought you the first half of my chat with Ian Baker-Finch, who, of course, won at Royal Birktale back in 1991.

Now, time for the second half of that chat when he talks us through that Sunday 35 years ago, which changed his life forever.

You birdie five of the first seven holes, as you said, draining putts from everywhere.

But having started Sunday tied with the lead, as you say, you're five clear, birding the seventh.

That feeling of, you better not mess it up from here.

That sort of fear of failure, of forever being known as the guy who choked away the open.

That must be horrible, that feeling to have.

As nice as it is to have a five-shot lead.

uh that that's when i really knew okay just all you got to do is stand up from from here in and you get your name on the clara chug and you sort of alluded there you'd had some tough sundays over the course of your career you admit you had trouble focusing that you sort of getting in your own way if you like what were their doubts swirling around during the back nine or or did you feel that this is it this is my time

really one of the only times that i had any negative feel or steering type of uh feel to the swing but otherwise just everything was on go two men you've mentioned so far and i want to go into them in more detail now in terms of being able to help you stay calm and relaxed firstly your caddy pete bender there are a couple of lovely moments i have to say one is at the sixth you hit this stunning approach into the sixth and then you just kind of give pete a little rub of the shoulder as if

You know, here's my rock, Pete's here for me.

And then the other moment, which is kind of well known now, is the approach into 16 when you say, do you like that one, PD?

The second it's come off the club face, do you like that one, PD?

And you can see just watching that final round back, the bond between the two of you.

Uh, and it was like a butter knife back then as well, by the way.

Yeah.

And as I said, I think two people were important that day.
