I think as people, whether you're adults or children, it's very hard to feel that you are not part of a community.
And I can totally understand that.
why people then choose to, I mean, just to name it, to be hypocritical about it and think that there's no harm.
And essentially, if everybody else is also being a hypocrite, then it makes it okay.
I deliberately mentioned it because obviously I've had loads of conversations, but I was particularly interested in the psychologists because
psychologists would call that a cognitive dissonance, I think is the term, where you completely ignore something that you feel very strongly about for something that completely contradicts it.
And she herself had that exact cognitive dissonance that she was able to ignore
all of those atrocities, all of the stuff that we already know, even the fact, even the minor things of just not believing any of it and then still go ahead with it.
It puzzles me too and it does frustrate me as well.
So I can, but I think that's...
That's the way I suppose some people, you know, sort of compartmentalise their world of contradictions.
Thanks so much, Ray.
Good morning, David.
Yeah, it's a great question because I think lots of parents are faced with that reality when they send their child to a primary school in Ireland.
Because as many of your listeners will know, the vast majority of primary schools in Ireland are Catholic patronage.
And sometimes they're left with the choice of letting their child go.
be almost a guest in their own classroom, having to sit at the back of the class for vast swathes of second class and sixth class when the sacraments were prepared.
And everything is sort of centered around this one big day.
And many parents make the decision to just go along with it, even if they don't believe in it.
And those that don't do find themselves somewhat isolated in the classroom.
