I eventually found somebody who was basically Dr. Fajimina, who is an amazing NASA hydrologist, one of the top hydrologists in the world.

And I dropped her a note.

I said, I'm really sorry.

I know that you are the expert in the subject.

I have a question about Niger.

And she came back to me and just said that there is this tradition in Niger of gift-giving.

to the extent that you always take a gift.

If you turn up to somebody's house, you take something, even if it's just an egg, you have to show it with something.

And that was so interesting to me because it showed this little trend that was small and tiny, but so niche, but reflective of a society, of a difference, I guess, in that place, but about something that's kind of strangely unifying.

Yeah, I mean, we've done a lot of these kind of projects on my team.

Year in search is pretty much that.

It's a reflection of the things that we cared about in the year.

And actually, for year in search data, we use the things that trended.

So those were things that accelerated in search the most, not just the things that were top searched.

So you can get a sense of what was different about, say, 2025 compared to 2024.

So yeah, I would love it if we just did this sort of stuff.

But there's definitely like, it's definitely a strength.

I think it's the sort of stuff that only Google has.

in my opinion, like this ability to do this.

So when I see a reflection in something like your research, it's always a good feeling for me.
