All right, another good question has come up by an InvestieBesti.
Hi sim, how to ask for a raise?
I'm two years into my role and I'm the only lead designer left.
I'm competent and confident and
Please help.
Oh, that is a good one.
If you are the only person left in your like department and you are scared to ask for a raise and you've been there for two years, I was talking to a friend of mine and she was saying how in her company that she works for, they come across as a very like friendly company and they're super young and hip and the products are really cool and the services are cool, and yet she was
Saying that like a year had gone by and she hadn't received a raise.
But I was like, What about your performance review?
She was like, Yeah, we do performance reviews every single year, but they don't tack on a raise conversation in that review.
You kind of have to do your own work to share: hey, like, I think I deserve a raise, and like here's the XYZ reasons why you should give me a raise.
Yeah.
And I thought that was a little bit cheeky of the company to not have it as part of a formal addition to your performance review.
Like if you are reviewing me.
and my skill sets and what I've done for the company for the last 12 months, then I also think I should be reviewing my value in this marketplace and asking for a raise or talking about what do I need to do over the next six months to receive said raise.
And so making it a part of every single 12 month like conversation that you have is really important.
But the best way to ask for a raise is to showcase how much money you are adding to a company's bottom line or at least top line revenue.
So either you showcase, hey, I am adding money to the company because as a lead designer,
Look, I don't know really know too much about what lead designers do, but let's say you are like, hey, I've been able to take on like extra clients which have brought in an extra $30,000 a year, and therefore I would love a $20,000 raise.
So you're showcasing, hey, I've added value, I've added money to the company, therefore I should take a bit more of a raise.
