It's not surprising, and I'll tell you why.
When I lived in Ireland, again, I emigrated a long time ago, and I thought I would try it out, test drive it again for a year.
And it didn't work out for me, for many of the reasons that I've written about in my piece.
It was too hard trying to live there.
I couldn't find anywhere to live.
But while I was there, I wrote about this.
I wrote about my experience and I had a similar reaction.
And in fact, there was this kind of hashtag at the time, which was, you know, Ireland hater.
I was called an Ireland hater.
And I hate that because I love Ireland.
I want to be able to live there, but I can't right now.
There are, I got hundreds of emails from people who like me live overseas and desperately want to move back, but have nothing to move back to.
There's nothing to move into.
There's no economy in which to get that job that they have elsewhere.
They can't get a house.
And a few years later, you know, writing this time about Ireland and the reaction was very similar.
But it's disappointing for a few different reasons.
One is that I don't have an institution behind me when I write this.
