I knew all the Bible stories.
And then as I got older, and I had faith, yes.
But it was a kind of imposed faith.
This was mum's faith.
And she wasn't even going to church anymore.
We're going to go to church in the family, brother shepherds.
You're not even going.
Get your backside to church.
Because I think it gave her peace and quiet for a Sunday morning.
And she could cook and she could watch the telly and she could just get us out of the house because there were loads of us.
Anyway, I got to church and we'd have a Bible class and then we'd all get together and sing hymns.
And then that'll be it.
And go back home and have Sunday dinner.
And then later on...
There was this moment when I was about 14 and a half where Brother Shepard and the others said, OK, well, we're going to do a thing now because you should be saved.
It's not like saving.
Being saved means something spiritual happens to you from in here.
It's not just a confirmation.
This was a spiritual connection that had to be made with the Lord, and you would feel something, and it would be in your heart, and you would say, I'm going to give my life to Christ.
