You know, any work of art.

any book, certainly, I always think of as a gift to the other, right?

It's always... The act of writing itself is a form of representation for the other, even if you're keeping a diary.

It's for another self, because perhaps later, the later self looks back at an earlier self, you know?

So it's always...

towards the other.

And the means of doing that best, I think, is through something that resonates emotionally.

And emotional truth is something I've used in essays.

Right.

So I teach a seminar to psychiatric residents at Weill Cornell.

And I also, you know, have a scholarly life that includes giving lectures in various disciplines.

Usually this interdisciplinary knot of neurology, neuroscience, psychiatry, and psychoanalysis.

So for 11 years, I was in not the traditional five days on the couch psychoanalysis, but for a while, twice a week, psychoanalytically-based psychotherapy.

Okay.

And then shifted at six.

Some year.

So I am a booster for psychoanalytically based psychotherapy and feel that that dialogue, which is, of course, echoed in many other forms of psychotherapy, is healing.

That you weren't going to be cut short.
