And the reason he got uninvited is because a sermon had turned up in which he was preaching about a traditional Christian ethic of sexuality and marriage.

religious folks from across the spectrum around issues of gay marriage.

I was talking to a friend of mine who was in the gay activist movement.

I asked him, I said, hey, listen, I know you guys went pretty hard after Louis and had his invitation revoked from the inauguration.

why were you not upset when Cardinal Dolan, who holds to the exact same theology of marriage and sexuality, why were you not upset when he gave the invocation at the Democratic National Convention?

And he gave me a really interesting response.

He said, we don't expect the Catholics to change their view on any of this stuff.

But you evangelicals change your views on things all the time because you're a populist movement.

So when you refuse to change your views on marriage and sexuality stuff, we assume it's bigotry because it's not rooted in theological conviction.

And that's when I started to see a shift.

And a lot of people who are closer to the Obama administration who came from more conservative religious traditions got pushed out more and more and more.
