I jokingly refer to them as fear evangelicals, the sense that they're under siege, they're being persecuted, and in this desperate need for survival, they will resort to anything, including backing somebody like Donald Trump, who might contradict a lot of their core beliefs.

That's the rhetoric, even though I don't think the evidence is really there that that community is truly under siege.
