and dumbfounded that I was able to achieve mine, but it would not have happened if I was stuck in the same economic system related to debt, related to college education, related to wages and everything else, immediately out of college.
Finishing college and starting at zero is a lot different than finishing college and starting at negative $200,000, which some of my peers that I graduated with, that's where they started.
I am very debt averse as a function of just not having it.
So I don't assume it's a fact of life except for the mortgages for my home and for the commercial property where the bar is.
But because I've been able to escape debt, I sort of see accruing debt as a real negative.
And I've made smart financial choices in the avoidance of debt.
That's meant at certain points in my life living very frugally.
It's meant having savings.
It's meant investing in my 401k.
But I think that if I was also servicing debt, I would be more debt prone.
And I have a lot of peers who are just willing to take on debt regardless of the consequences because they've been trained, I think, economically to do that from day one as an adult.
And they're not saving.
They're not putting towards a 401k.
Long before I think they were, I think, adult enough to make those tough choices.
