I think

You know, if it had just been a a a tale of survival, I I I would have uh written it as a piece 'cause I it was an interesting one and it had been sort of largely forgotten.

But I think, you know, what made it a book was that sense that there was something much richer at work and that there there were sort of things to excavate in these people that that I I sort of thought were worth doing over um, you know, a few more words.

Yeah, of course.

So Morris, uh well, they were both born and raised in the city of Derby, which is right in the middle of England, quite an industrial town, um, historically, and very, very far from the sea.

And Morris was like the second of four children and had a pretty

Tough upbringing.

not necessarily materially, but I guess in terms of love, in terms of affection, he

uh was born into an and I know this m mostly and you know in pretty short form.

There was only sort of so far I could could push, I suppose, from his

younger brother and from things that he had said, um, in his own work over over the years and his own sort of

brief confessions, I suppose.

You know, he he wasn't one to go too personal most, but they were quite a religious family and he turned away from that v v very young.

And and I think from a quite a young age felt sort of distinct, felt separate from them.

But also felt like he, yeah, hadn't been sort of raised with much affection.

And he he said much later in life that once he'd met Marilyn, that was the first time he'd really understood what what affection was, or felt that he'd received it.

And

You know, he was very ill as a child.

He he spent a lot of time alone in in a room, literally recovering.
