Like you look at early days of the COVID pandemic, people were absolutely glued to like any source of information, you know, couldn't talk about anything else.
And I think it is that vigilant system of like, this really scary thing is there.
We've all got to monitor it really, really closely.
And that, you know, that goes back to some of what we were talking about before.
You need a system for monitoring it, right?
That is important if that's your field, if that's what you're focused on.
But once you have that in place, it actually can give you permission to not monitor other times, right?
But if you don't have a good system in place, then yeah, you might always feel like I might miss something critical or like I might need to monitor because you don't trust that it will be monitored.
It actually reminds me of this idea of like getting things done with kind of productivity system.
where oftentimes when people have never done complex work before, they have very ad hoc systems for keeping track of things.
So they never really are sure that they're on top of what needs to be on top of or that all their to-dos are there.
And then one of the insights of getting things done is have a single trusted system
Anytime you have something to do, it goes in the trusted system so you know you'll never miss it.
And that just removes the need for this vigilance of like, but what if I miss this thing?
You're like, no, I just have this one system and it will always tell me what I needed to do.
I think it's important to understand a bit about the nature of anxiety.
It can actually be quite confusing, and people can misunderstand what it's like.
Because you might think, well, if I'm tracking all the AI news stories and they're stressing me out, then I'm exposing myself to the scary thing.
And that's somehow good for me.
Like, oh, that's going to make me hardened and robust.
