And we're not talking about, like, the friends and family of the people dying, but, like, the person themselves.
Like, it doesn't harm the person when they're alive because they're not dead yet.
It doesn't harm the person when they're dead because they can't be harmed.
And then, you know, the argument is, well, therefore, it doesn't harm them at all because it can't harm them when they're alive or when they're dead.
Right.
I think when we think about these thought experiments, some people will still be afraid of death itself, but I think
a lot of that is actually fear of dying or missing out or something like that, which is a somewhat different fear.
It's not exactly of death.
Yeah.
Every once in a while, I'll meet someone who says, oh, it may be better if humanity died out.
And I'm always shocked.
And I tend to think that when they say things like that, they haven't really thought it through.
Because I think almost everyone actually values a lot of different things.
And almost all of those things end when humanity ends.
Not all of them.
You might value...
spirituality, maybe you think that continues even if there's no humanity.
You might value nature and that continues, etc.
But a lot of what people value actually does go away.
So that's why I think almost no matter what your values are, you probably really care about the world not ending.
