It's like thinking that the way that you win a race is by going at maximum speed at every single moment.
No, that's actually how you get injured or burn out, right?
That's not the way you win the race.
Yeah, this goes back to the question of what kind of beings are we?
And I would argue that we're beings with many different drives.
And some of them are very low level.
Generally, people will avoid taking on extra effort unless they have some reason to.
They will literally take... Literally, they'll walk in straight lines instead of curved lines, right?
They'll take the path of least resistance.
Well, why is that?
I think we have some drive to reduce...
energy expenditure.
Of course, you can override it.
You can have a goal that overrides it.
But I think it's worth noticing that's a drive.
And I actually think we have dozens of these drives.
We have a drive to be accepted by our social community, probably because we would literally die if we weren't 50,000 years ago, right?
And I think we have all these overlapping drives.
And then we have this kind of reasoning
sort of more rational part of our minds that's like coming up with like principles to live by and, you know, ideas that we want to follow and things we believe in, et cetera.
