It's it turned out it was inflation was not transitory.
It hung around.
But even once they realized that, the Fed waited about six months before it started to address the inflation, because the idea is, or according to Warsh, they were kind of trying to like position everyone, warn everyone, be transparent, be like, hey, listen, we're gonna raise rates, brace yourselves.
And that six months may have cost us a lot, may have
have made inflation a lot worse.
Uh interest rates on short term bonds went way up.
Was he trying to be silent?
Well, let me counter with this, Justin.
So Worsh says he's modeling himself off of Alan Greenspan, who chaired the Fed from eighty seven to two thousand six.
Greenspan was not a transparent person.
In fact, he used to raise interest rates without even telling anybody about it.
Bond traders would have to figure it out.
People used to look at his tie colors and like how much paper was in his briefcase and his micro expressions and try to figure out what he was doing.
The markets loved him.
The economy did quite well in a well, I mean, it was it, you know, there was some just tough times, but he did get inflation from four percent to two percent.
He used a different model of transparency.
He loved saying nothing.
I think famously he said to a Senate committee, if I seem unduly clear, you have not understood what I said or something like that.
Yes.
So why did that work under Greenspan?
