And I wanted to get to know some people in our organization and understand what their strengths were, what their skill sets were.

And looking at the big picture of the modern hockey operation, it's a very complex thing compared to where it was 10 or 15 years ago.

So in order to be effective, I think you need the proper leadership in a lot of new areas, which maybe weren't highlighted or accentuated in the previous five or six years.

But with the way the game is going and the complexity of being a successful front office, I think there's a lot of work to be done.

You're right.

We had a couple assistant GMs and they do a great job, Keith Gretzky and Bill Scott.

But there's a lot of work that, a lot of additional work that I think has to be done.

So we decided to take our time to try to determine how we should go with it as well as who are the right people for these roles.

This is something that's been in the works for close to two years now.

And, you know, it's nice to be able to finally put it all together and make these announcements because I'm really excited about the direction of our organization and where we're headed.

So in relation to Kurt in particular,

uh yes i had hired kurt actually to be a scout when i was in chicago and uh kurt had been doing a lot of good work and he was you know young and up and coming so he worked with us only one year and then he got the call to come be the general manager the oil kings and you know we didn't want to

holding back.

We thought that was a great progression for him.

And, you know, in the intervening years, he's done an excellent job.

And I've had a chance to work with him over the last couple of years and, you know, start talking about what roles he could help us with and, you know, where his strengths were.

And this seemed like a natural fit.

And his primary responsibility in that pillar of our organization would be the player procurement.

Essentially, any player that's going to come into our organization, whether it's through the draft, through the trades, free agency, or, you know, undrafted free agents, that's all going to be in that group.
