They are creepy.
I love cats, but there's something kind of unknowable about cats.
It's like they're assessing you all the time.
They're judging you.
I think somebody's written a whole book about cats in horror films, and I can quite understand that.
But there's also exotic creatures.
In a couple of Sherlock Holmes stories, there would seem to be sort of panthers walking and leopards walking around the grounds of some stately home or something.
And in, I suppose, and the speckled band is a poisonous snake, of course.
I suppose people were travelling more in the Victorian and Edwardian period.
And so these creatures were seen as quite exotic.
