And the participation rate, where does that fit into this?
Ah, that is the addition of people with a job, employment, plus unemployment.
So the labour force, the available labour force, so people who have a job and people who want a job, divided by the working age population, 15 to 64.
And so that is the sort of denominator.
And the participation rate swings up and down according to the business cycle in part, but also it swings according to one of the big things that's happened in the recent decades, and it is a decadal thing, is female participation rates gone up dramatically.
Back, gosh, in the 1980s, it was down about 40%.
