The recruiting business is booming.
Let's look at the Army.
It's the largest branch, therefore needs the most people.
They recruited uh sixty one thousand and five hundred people this year.
That's up from uh just under forty five thousand a couple years ago when this recruiting crisis started, and the Pentagon was having trouble finding people.
So the Pentagon's biggest problem is actually finding enough people to be eligible for military service.
It estimates uh
Just about a quarter of young Americans, 17 to 24, are even eligible to enlist into the military.
So they're already dealing with a very small pool of people, and now they got to convince them, right?
And the biggest issues with finding enough young Americans to recruit is uh twofold.
A worsening obesity epidemic.
People are simply not in shape enough to enlist.
The bigger one is actually academic performance.
People who want to enlist in the military, they have to take basically what's an
SAT style exam.
They have to pass it and get certain benchmarks for uh more advanced jobs in the military, and they've had a tough time finding people who can academically qualify for service.
We've reviewed Pentagon data and we've interviewed some forty recruits at various stages in the pipeline, and they're joining for the same reason that they've been joining since the nineteen seventies, and all the research backs this up.
It's for economic reasons.
Politics doesn't necessarily play a role, and rather not someone enlists.
Out of the forty recruits I talked to, I asked them various questions of like, do they know who the Secretary of Defense is?
