I couldn't help but smile.
And it kind of broke the tension a little bit.
But he had that gift.
He projected comfort.
He projected all the things a decent and good person would do, as well as getting all this attention.
Had time for everybody.
Strangers would walk up.
He even counseled me.
on the way to sign my autograph so that people could read it.
He said, you should be flattered.
This is all rookie stuff for me.
You should be flattered that somebody asked you for your autograph to the point where they can read it.
And I never forget that.
I still try to do it because Maz, you know, he didn't have the easiest name to write on a baseball.
He could have very easily just signed Maz, Bill Mazeroski.
And now it's Bill Mazeroski, HOF, Hall of Fame.
I was so glad that,
when he got in because he, you know, if, if you're the best ever second baseman, there should be a place for you in Cooperstown.
And, and it finally happened for him.
And I've never been happier.
