I don't think he gave it a lot of consideration.
He's a guy that would appreciate it if it happened.
His life wouldn't change if it didn't.
There was always a rumor, and I don't know if it was true or not, the Veterans Committee
that there was maybe a former New York Yankee that never voted for him in that Veterans Committee.
I choose to think that that might have been the case.
It's just a rumor.
I've never confirmed it.
But if they did, shame on them.
Because, yeah, the home run.
But this guy, you know, guys would slide into second base and they'd either β
miss him because he's already out of the way, or they'd slide into him, they'd kind of slide up those tree-trunk legs that he had, slide back down, and be carried off the field.
And I know that happened because I saw it in a game of Philadelphia.
I think it was a guy named Stone slid into him, kind of slid halfway up Maz's body, slid back down, and they had to carry him off the field.
Maz didn't give any ground.
He would turn that double play, turn the direction of that ball,
and get out of the way if he could.
But he was also strong enough, the bottom of his body, from the waist down.
I mean, if you slid into him, you were probably going to get the worst of the deal.
And I saw it happen.
