That's a regret.

I feel a bit ashamed by that, to be frank with you.

I wonder if part of this feeds into, I went to this book launch last night for this friend of mine, a New Plymouth poet called Elizabeth Smither.

She must be in her 80s, I guess.

It was her 20th collection of poems.

The first one was in 1975.

So she would be around about that vintage.

And anyway, she's got this terrific poem in there.

It's called The Fashion of Embracing.

And she talks about how she's got grandchildren and she's always hugging them.

and her own daughter as well.

And she thinks back to her mother and that the fashion of embracing had not taken hold in New Zealand at that time.

And I think she talks about, you know, the most you ever got was like a pat on the arm or, you know, definitely a gesture of affection.

And the love was still there, but the overtness of it was not.

It's a really beautiful poem.

Yeah, I'm always, you know, hugging her and stuff.

The fashion for embracing is alive and well in her generation, thank God.

I guess so, Shay, yeah.
