And, yeah, the guest speaker would come.
I would sort of emcee the event.
And it would get – the idea I had for it is that it would be fun.
But really the sort of framework I had for it would be like a salon, a contest of ideas.
Yeah.
Very few of the speakers worked in the media, but they were very familiar with the media.
You know, they were being interviewed by the media constantly.
They were in the public spotlight.
And that likewise influenced the people who I'd get in.
You get business leaders, sports legends, and some people from the media as well.
And instead of just stocking the room full of journalists, you know, nothing duller.
It's just like the Voyager Media Awards, but nobody wins anything.
They would speak and then I would conduct the question and answer session.
And, yeah, when I say it was a contest of ideas, it was a loud and often angry argument between people.
And I thought that was great.
It seemed to be that even though during those years journalism was, you know, rushing down the cliff towards extinction, it was going out with a bang.
It was expressing itself quickly.
It was making itself known.
It was having an impact, anyway, within the room.
And, of course, it was all, you know, designed for the entertainment and the inspiration to, hopefully, of the journalism students.
