Police say 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford drove his truck through the entrance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, about 60 miles north of Detroit.
He then allegedly started shooting and deliberately set the church on fire.
Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Rennie praised the bravery of the people inside the church during the attack.

The Sunday worship service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan was underway when an unidentified 40-year-old man allegedly drove his vehicle through the front doors of the church.
Authorities say he then started shooting, and he may also have started a fire in the church.
