Really, really excited about this opportunity.
So thanks for having me on.
Yeah, it was a long process, obviously, you know, as soon as the season ended or even before the, you know, the season ended with, you know, Brad Treelan being let go.
We knew, obviously, there's going to be some changes coming down the path and, you know, and then Don Chayka gets hired and, you know,
You know, Craig gets relieved of his duties and then we were just in kind of in limbo waiting to see what was going to happen.
So John Chaga was really good.
I was able to interview for the head coaching position with the Leafs and that kind of just sparked, you know, a little bit of a different perspective for me in regards to, you know, you're just looking at one area of the game.
You're looking at the power play and offensive game and
And having to do a deep dive of a whole team and what we were all about and trying to present that to John and to Matt and Ryan Hardy and just going through that process.
Obviously, I wasn't offered the job or onto the next round, but it just kind of sparked the fact that this was exciting for me and just progressed from there and then forward.
John and I obviously have a history together back in Arizona, me being his assistant GM for four or five years.
So we've got a relationship.
So we just talked about staying in the organization.
If it was not with the new coach who ended up being Jim Hiller, who I interviewed with.
If not, then maybe the spot with the Marlies would be the next progression for it.
And I was excited about it.
Obviously, if you look at the NHL, you look at the coaches that are there, out of 32 of them, only five have zero head coach experience before getting that job.
So for me, I think just the progression of if you want to be the best in your profession, and that's being a head coach in the National Hockey League, this is going to be a path that I was going to have to take anyway, so why not now?
