They always give the game away by saying the purpose is to find evidence to support these modalities.
It's like, no, that's not the purpose.
The purpose is to look at the evidence to see whether or not these things work, not to shore up the evidence base for them, but to use evidence to find out what works and what doesn't work.
And they never, ever talk about the negative.
They never say,
to find out what doesn't work and stop doing it never because that's not at all what they're doing when that's the difference between ebm and sbm again in the way that it is practiced out there i know ebm proposing no that's they'll basically define ebm as science-based medicine like fine you're right that's what it should be it's just not that way in practice and and these very specific ways but but that's kind of you know related to what we do like that's
Because that's my area of specialty, you know, science-based medicine.
It's applying all of these skeptical tools in a specific area to make sure that we're like really, you know, again, very carefully calibrating what we do to reality, knowing if something works or not, you know.
They should converge.
But in practice they're not, yeah.
But they don't.
But there is a real philosophical underpinning where, like, if you wait, since you bring it up, you know, you can't even know what a p-value means, right?
You can't know what a statistical analysis of how likely it is that a treatment effect works or not based upon the evidence.
Unless you put it in the context of the prior plausibility, you can't do it.
And EBM pretends like you can, right?
It pretends like, oh, if you got to 0.05 p-value, that tells us that it works.
Well, not if it's impossible at baseline.
It doesn't tell us that.
Word's getting out.
Absolutely.
