Before we sort of build up Pat and how well he's done on his comeback, when I see Ruti's dismissal on its own, it's a horrible little poke outside off stump, which we've seen.
He struggles with Pat's angle, I think.
You always think of it coming back to him.
Was there a build up to that in a sense it was a working over from the bowler or was it just one of those shots that Ruti will want to forget?
I don't think I've ever seen a bowler who's had as little match practice in a sense that leading into a series, it's not like he's played a couple of shield games or any first class game.
He's just done network and obviously worked incredibly hard.
But to come in and show that rhythm and hit the areas and be as relentless as he always has been after an injury layoff is incredible.
I look back, sort of my career would always take me
probably four innings, maybe even five innings of match bowling, whether that's for Championship cricket, for Nottinghamshire, to feel like I was test match sort of Ash's speed.
So I liked Overs in the legs, but he's just come back in and looked like he's been playing...
five tests in a row and and in absolute sort of great rhythm and great strike so when you've not played a match for a while you can over stride you can over try you can want your brain wants to get you to the crease before before you're ready which means that you miss on length actually controlling your brain's tempo as well because you bowl five balls and you think right i'll try an in swing or try an out swing or i'll try this instead of just going i'm going to hit this area hit this area and match fitness for me is as much in the brain as it is in in the legs so for him to have
have shown that level of match fitness without playing any cricket is absolutely outstanding.
And I think I heard a lot of the Aussie commentators say at the Gabba, look, this is only going to get harder.
We didn't know Josh Hazle was necessarily out the series there, but just Pat coming back is going to make such a big difference.
And it does.
He just does not miss.
He's got an angle that...
Back in the day, you'd say he gets slightly the wrong side of it, I suppose, wouldn't you?
But it's that angle where he's mid-crease that makes you want to play every single ball.
And it looks like he bowls fast leg cutters because it just bounces and nips away from the batter that brings the outside edge in.
