He finally got elected to Congress.
And then when he was at the...
the way that they do that post-election gathering of congressmen elect where they kind of go through what it's going to be like.
He was at this hotel at Crystal City and he got a call out of the blue from a lawyer who was representing one of the people who was killed in that fire, who had been a CIA agent.
And his family had been on this long pursuit to prove that he was actually there as an agent.
And
This lawyer had read the history of this congressman, how he'd been and heard rumors and just called him out of the blue and said, were you at the Cinema Follies fire?
And he could have just said no, but he said yes.
And it was sort of like, finally, I get elected to Congress and I still have this thing.
So he testified during his first term secretly in this trial.
Then he became convinced before he was running for the election that the opposition knew about it, which as it turns out, they didn't.
So he held this press conference, which is one of the more remarkable moments I've ever seen in Mississippi, saying that he was there in this fire and he'd been arrested.
And he still got reelected.
But then he got arrested in January after the inaugural of his second term in the men's room on the sixth floor.
was this the same guy who came to you i think i've read or heard that this is came to you and said i have something to tell you and you said when a candidate has something to tell you no it's not it ain't going to be good it's never going to be good it's like when you're vetting someone like for vice president or something and you ask like is there anything else we should know and you're about to say well yes there is that's never oh boy never a good moment
