You know, and what's funny is, Nicole, you and I might have never met, right?
Yeah, maybe.
You know, when President Trump was elected the second time, you know, one of the things I did is I called a bunch of my friends.
I said, if he could ask you to serve, serve.
You did?
Yeah.
Wow.
Hell, Nicole, if he'd asked me to serve, I would have done it.
Now I would have been fired every single day.
But for the people that I help listen to this, I just don't think people in general understand those people who choose to serve are doing so because of a profound love, even if they see some reality that they think is hard, they still do it.
And the other thing I have to say, and this is for...
you know, the party that is smug about this moment.
You know, when my PTSD was worst was when the Biden administration wouldn't bring me back in because I was from the Trump administration.
What happened?
Well, I thought those people above all others would know who I really was, right?
That I could sit on panels or commissions or special groups and studies like that.
And so I think one of the things we really need to check ourselves is,
as we come into this next room, can we really afford to be throwing away half of our institutional talent every time we have an election because of the misperception that people who serve their country, even though when they go into a voting booth, they surely vote in that privacy, that they still are not beholden to anyone.
And I think we've got to get over that because you and I have talked about this.
