once it came to living together and actually building a day-to-day domestic life and having a budget and a kid, the whole thing really, really went south very quickly.

It's interesting, because my parents had a very volatile relationship themselves, but once they split up,

they really remained friends for the rest of their lives.

My father has passed away and my mom is still around.

But to very late in their lives, they would still get on the phone to talk about the wonderful subject, me.

I united them.

What is it about him?

My father and Cirque have quite different biographies.

Their resumes are very, very different.

But temperamentally, there are a lot of borrowings that I made from my poor father, who has been borrowed from for so many of my books.

And while he was still alive, he was such a good sport about it, too.

He really was.
