Well, she did record songs that were ahead of their time in speaking about things, for example, like Unwed Pregnancy and a song called Down from Dover that you know many radio stations refused to play.
And you know, she would go on, for example, to start something called Dollywood.
a really bold move for a woman to take that kind of ownership of her brand and name something after herself like that, you know.
We know that women are perceived as less likable than men are when they ask for raises, right?
Like women aren't supposed to be patting themselves on the back or drawing attention to themselves and their glory.
Of course, she was doing that to bring business and job opportunities to the community in which she was raised.
That was the motivation.
It wasn't about self-glorification.
But I think it was a modeling of power.
That is very, very rare in female business history.
Yeah.
And she was a tremendous businesswoman who really kept control and fought for control of her own creative output in a way that no doubt paved the way for people like Taylor Swift, who, you know, have inspired so many young women with her fierceness and the way that she conducts herself as a businesswoman.
Yeah, think about it.
In many ways she was executing the vision of what feminists wanted women to be able to do.
She had control over her finances and over her business.
She dressed the way she wanted to dress.
She wasn't gonna let anybody tell her what she had to look like.
And, you know, even the fact that she was child-free and was not being questioned as being, you know, less than a woman, that too was something that Gloria Steinem wanted for women, that they could make that choice and not be judged for it.
All of these things made her somebody who was living the feminist ideals in practice.
You know, that's a great question.
