I'm Susan Hayes-Culleton.

Now for this week's trivia.

As regular listeners will know, I usually base my trivia around somewhere I've been in the past week.

However, at a time when people traditionally go somewhere on a summer holiday, I'm leaning in to a lovely month of July where I'm going to spend every night at home in my own house.

I'm super grateful to be able to travel a lot with the work that I do.

So for me this month...

Staying home is the new going away.

So my trivia is changing to another one of my passions, namely cooking.

And last weekend, I made four variations of a dish which was originally in cookbooks in the 1400s, has an international day celebrating it every year in May.

And the top two producers of the main ingredient are India and Australia.

Now, with the NATO summit taking place in Turkey this week, many analysts are beginning to question how stable is the Western alliance and is it time for European members to take the lead on defending the continent?

I'm delighted that Ben Hall, the Europe editor of the FT, joins me now to talk through how Europe may need to go it alone when it comes to defence and how that might be achieved.

First off, Ben,

I want to ask you to give us a little history of what NATO is so that we can get a rounded understanding of that before we look at how it might possibly change unrecognisably in the years ahead.

Interestingly, though, Ben, you talk about protecting the whole of Russia now against Russian, sorry, the whole of Europe now against Russian aggression.
