I'm Donna Bohannon, chair of the Black History Committee, friends of the Thomas Balch Library.

And I first want to thank you on behalf of the Black History Committee, Thomas Balch Library, Supervisor Sings, thank you so much for helping us in telling the Willard story on a public level.

The project was something that as part of our mission to preserve and share the stories of African Americans in Lowndes County, but we couldn't have done it without a partnership with George Mason University Center for Mason Legacies and the students.

And I think that I would like to pass the mic to Dr. Wendy Manuel Scott to tell us more about it.

I'll just add that it's been a very interesting journey.

A lot of the black families that have existed in Loudoun County have been here for hundreds of years.

And seeing those families and how they connect, not just in their local areas, but also across communities and black communities in and outside of the county was very remarkable for me as someone that's not native to Virginia or to Loudoun County.

And so it's been an honor and a pleasure to be a steward of this history and I'm thankful to be here.

We have our local voice, and I'm so glad we are here to let folks know that we have done a lot of things in this county.

I think I was a toddler back then.
