This feels very different.
As a historian and a preservationist, I'm always fascinated about stories.
But this is the first year that I've ever felt a fight to keep our stories.
Nationally, African American history has been under attack.
You even have localities like Pennsylvania, the state of Pennsylvania, that is taking down their black history.
And on the contrast, you have a Loudoun County who is actually adding to our history.
And so we are very, very grateful.
Obviously, the proclamation can only hold a few stories.
This is only a scratch, a smidgen of all of the history that happens in one year.
If we wrote it all down, we'll be here to next year.
And so we're so grateful, continue to do the work.
I wanna commend Chair Randall and this board.
I know it is not easy, I cannot imagine the emails, the texts and threats and everything that you have, but thank you for preserving our history.
Thank you for fighting to make sure that the teachers can teach history authentically, make sure that our visitors that come to Loudoun, Wendy, has the right information to celebrate black history.
Black history in Loudoun,
sets the tone for American history, American history.
So thank you so much.
