From my experience, what I see is that that typically takes place out of a place of fear and not understanding what people can actually afford to take out of their super.
Of course, yeah.
Yeah, there's some really crazy numbers on it.
Um from twenty twenty, a report that Treasury did found that uh outstanding superannuation death benefits could increase from around 17 billion in 2019.
to just under a hundred and thirty billion in twenty fifty nine, assuming that there's no change in the way that retirees are drawing down on their super.
Wow.
So that that's a crazy large amount of money that has been left on the table, mostly from what I see, out of a place of fear.
it goes to the spouse.
Right, okay.
Which is an interesting conversation in itself, because if you don't have a quote dependent, um there is no one that that reversionary can go to and that
remaining um
equivalent lump sum balance of your defined benefit income stream, that doesn't get what we called commuted to a lump sum on death.
It just disappears.
So
Yes.
So there are circumstances where it definitely makes sense to um
when you get to that point in time where you're making the decision on what to do with your defined benefit at retirement, a lot of people do choose to p put uh or commute half of it or a portion of it into a lump sum, um, and commute or keep the rest as a lifetime income stream for that reason because um
Yeah.
Yeah.
Especially if, you know, you're not in the best um health state and you know that there's you know no one else to pass on that reversionary pension to.
