And I think that there are five very specific things, and I'm going to go through them because I think that we need to begin to have a real discussion about what's possible and necessary.

Number one, we need to articulate an aspiration.

We need to signal to our friends in the world, to our partners in the region, where we want to go.

I do not believe, given where we are, that that aspiration can be a two-state outcome.

I do think that articulating an aspiration, something like, Israel would like to live in a reality where both Israelis and Palestinians live in peace, security, prosperity, and dignity, is an important statement to make.

We are not okay with this reality.

We want to move out of it.

And we may have differences as to why we're there, but we agree we want to move forward.

I think there's nothing wrong with articulating an aspiration you don't know how to realize.

There's everything wrong with not articulating an aspiration at all and just being in that state.

I would start with that.

Just some kind of north star about where we want to go that enables our friends to feel like we are signaling to them

We're willing to listen to ideas.

We're going to be skeptical and very serious about them, but we want to move in a positive direction, number one.

Number two, probably the single most important immediate thing to do, and that is a very visible and obvious clampdown on Jewish terrorism in the West Bank.

Now that phenomenon is not, probably not the phenomenon as it's written about in the international media.

I think the picture is a little more complex than people describe from a factual level.

But it is a phenomenon that is a total moral bankruptcy on our part.

Even if we weren't suffering hemorrhaging legitimacy and criticism, it would still be necessary for us to respond to it.

And the next Israeli government, I think, and there are indications from Israel, really quite significant parts of the Israeli political spectrum, that that is and can be a core priority of the next Israeli government.
