Petersburg.
Wow.
Went absolutely nowhere.
So I discarded that.
Some years later, I wrote Sleeping Beauty, which I worked very, very hard on, although the choreographer, Marius Petitpas, kept telling me, I need eight bars here, and I need four measures here, and I need a half beat here, and I had to follow his thing.
I was very proud of my orchestration in that, and that was more of a success.
But the Tsar, Alexander III, who was a great supporter of mine, in fact, he'd given me a pension of some 3,000 rubles a year, he came to see it, and after the performance, he yawned and said, very nice.
And how were you at coping with all this?
Well, by that time, I had been able to rise above.
Although I did rather disregard my ballets.
The third ballet was a piece called Nutcracker.
I don't know if you've heard of it.
But it's a very silly piece.
It's not worth talking about.
It'll quickly be forgotten.
The opera I wrote with it, though, Eolanta, now that I'm sure is destined for immortality.
I'm sure you'll all know that one.
