I was running on empty and then I was grabbing whatever was in front of me.

Hunger was the real issue and hunger was something I could actually solve.

I've been thinking about that a lot in relation to John 6, because I think Jesus is making a similar point.

I think he uses situations in our own lives, just the way he did with the disciples, to show us things and teach us things.

And he's showing us what hunger looks like on a much bigger scale.

So in John 6, before Jesus makes one of his most famous I am statements, that'll come tomorrow, stay tuned for Jensen, when he says, I am the bread of life, by the way, before he makes that statement,

statement, two important things happen in the beginning of John chapter 6.

First, he feeds a massive crowd by multiplying bread and fish.

And then he walks across a storm-tossed sea to calm his terrified disciples who were in a boat.

And these aren't just miracles.

They are signs.

And we know that Jesus uses signs the same way he uses parables to take something his followers already understand and point them toward a deeper spiritual truth.

He also uses signs to show them himself.

So think about some of Jesus' other I am statements.

I am the vine.

I am the shepherd.

I am the living water.

These weren't random images.

They were drawn from the world his listeners lived in every day.

He was meeting them where they were.
