That is really the beginning of opening the door to resilience.
And I saw that in my own life.
When I was in medical school, I lost vision and part of my eye.
And that was just an eye-opening experience for me because I became a patient and I had to say,
I've lost vision in my eye at the beginning of my journey in medical school.
I don't know what's going to happen.
Am I going to go blind?
Am I going to be able to finish becoming a doctor?
I fought so hard to get to this point.
Am I going to be able to finish medical school?
And I had to really learn to say, I did not want this to happen.
I did not anticipate this was going to happen.

And as you know, or many people may have heard of the serenity prayer, God grant me the serenity except the things I cannot change.
And that's the very first line.
And I just remember reading that and sort of really internalizing it.

For me, in my own journey, that was important.
I have seen that in my patients, and I've learned that through the psychologists who study this, and that's why that was really the first piece.
